After Subaru discontinued the Tribeca in 2014, there was an almost immediate discussion of a three-row, seven-passenger SUV to come in the years that followed. Subaru did not disappoint, first confirming that it was working on such an SUV and finally confirming that it would be called the Ascent.
Earlier this year, we got a taste of what this SUV would look like when the automaker took the Subaru Ascent SUV Concept to the New York International Auto Show.
While much is still unknown about the new Ascent, we did get a look at its exterior styling. The styling of the Ascent SUV Concept continues the “Dynamic x Solid” design theme that Subaru has launched. This theme is marked by a large grille and “powerful fender flares” that Subaru says represent its noted all-wheel-drive system.
According to Subaru, the new Ascent will be powered by a turbocharged direct-injection boxer engine when it makes it off production lines. When will that be? Subaru plans to begin production at the Subaru of Indiana plant in Lafayette in time for 2018 production in the North American market exclusively.
That means we’ll see the all-new Subaru Ascent here at Schlossmann Subaru City as early as next year. Keep checking in for updates while we wait.
